Research Center for Art Education

The term “arts” originally included a sense of self-education. The Research Center readdresses the link between arts and education while investigating how to implement arts education in today’s society. The following three departments have been established in accordance with the different areas of arts education.

Children's Art Education Department

The main body of department’s work is comprised of evaluation of the activities conducted at the Children’s Academy of Art and Education with weekly meetings and observation of everyday activities of the Academy conducted on a regular basis. The results are assembled together and published annually in the Children’s Academy of Art and Education Annual Activity Report.

Research Center for Primary and Secondary Art Education = [Primary and Secondary Art Education Department]

The Research Center for Primary and Secondary Art Education was opened on April 1, 2012, with the main aim of identifying the optimal state of arts education in child development from kindergarten through high school. In particular, the Center aims to follow a systematic and integrated approach in combining the previously distinct areas of university research on elementary, junior high, and senior high schools and to put its results into practice. The Center also aims to achieve more specific results from implementing its findings in the Kyoto Board of Education’s elementary and middle school collaborative arts education projects and through high school-university collaborative classes.

Continuing Education Department

Although they may not become professional artists, people who are busy with work or home life can also cultivate their artistic abilities in everyday life and make their lives all the more vivid. The department employs various means of communication to actively incorporate art into social interaction or local activities, using experimental methods of investigation to find methods to support the development of artistic sense in adults.
